Keys to the future

Ok, ok, the blog title "Keys to the future" is a little corny, but it fits... I am signing the lease on the apartment tomorrow morning and getting the keys. I already have Jake's crib in the trunk of the car, Christy is giving us hers, and an inflatable bed in the back seat, deflated of course! Jake and I are going to spend the first night in our apartment tomorrow, woohoo!

Mike is taking a nap right now and will be leaving Phoenix in a few hours. After a pitstop in Pampa, TX to visit his mother he'll arrive at the apartment in St. Charles some time late Wednesday. That's just over 1600 miles...

Everything else I am thinking of is mundane and boring, lots of little things I still need to do such as getting the storage unit, setting up cable and phone service, etc, so I am going to catch some z's myself. G'night, Adria

Mmm... White Castles rocks!

I have SO missed White Castle burgers and chicken rings! I had an order of chicken rings today and drowned them in honey mustard, they were finger-lickin' good!!!

Ok, on to the important stuff... I found an apartment! It's not the 'perfect' one I wrote about before. This one is even better! I submitted the application today and will finish the process on Monday, it was closing time by the time I finished the application and got back to the leasing office. It's right across from the mall, next to a book store, and a breakfast, brunch, and lunch place. I'm not sure if I'm going to want to move in to a house somewhere else... haha ;-)

Gotta run, Christy's teenager is kicking me off the computer, ttyl! Adria

Full of turkey 'n stuff...

Happy Turkey Day! Jake met his great-grandma today, she is living in an assisted living facility and has an awesome little apartment. We (my dad, Nana, Jake, and I) went down to the dining room and had a very filling turkey lunch with a couple pieces of pie for dessert. And my dad's soda decided to start frothing and foaming out of the can while it was just sitting there, it was very strange! I recorded it, I'll put it online one of these days...

My dad says the boat he gave us is not 'just' a boat of a car, but a 'pleasure' boat since it has quite a few bells and whistles, lol!

Back at Christy's house, my dad seemed to become one of Lexy's favorite play toys, they got along famously! I think she has adopted him as a surrogate grandpa :o)

We had seconds of John's turkey dinner and we are all half asleep now. My dad has left and I just browsed through some of my friends crazy MySpace profiles and I have come to the realization that I am just a square white midwestern girl... there's nothin' wrong with that is there?! ;-)

Perfect Apartment? And Thanksgiving plans...

I think I found the PERFECT apartment for us, I'm going to go see it Friday. But I still need to call a few other communities before making a final decision. And laundry is finished, Christy absolutely INSISTED on doing it for me, THANKS CHRISTY! And Jake has had a bath, a clean baby smells so sweet! :o)

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving! Mmm, TURKEY! And mashed potatoes! And pies! Did I say "Mmm"? Jake gets to meet his great-grandma tomorrow, we will be having lunch with her, my dad, and aunt.

Christy and John, her hubby, will be cooking a Thanksgiving feast too, so I not only get a Turkey lunch, but a Turkey dinner, too! DOUBLE Mmm!

I'm not sure what Mike is doing tomorrow, I know he has some server upgrades or something he wants to get finished while no one is in the office. He has been invited to a Thanksgiving feast at Kimberly's and I think Mickie invited him to his family gathering also. I'll ask in the morning when Jake and I call him.

I need to get to bed, I don't want to be late tomorrow. Sweet dreams, Adria

In St. Louis

Hi! Jake and I arrived in St. Louis on Sunday night. We had 3 checked suitcases, 2 carry on bags and a stroller with a car seat for the plane... phew! I had to take apart the stroller at the security checkpoint, thank goodness a nice woman offered to hold Jake while I was dismantling it since Mike was not with us.

Jake was an angel through all of it, the only time he fussed was when he was still hungry on the plane. Christy and her son, Nick, met us at the airport and we had an interesting experience loading her car, haha!

Monday Jennifer S took us to my dad's house to pick up the car he is giving us. He signed the title and wrote a Bill of Sale for the DMV. We got Jake strapped in and then I drove that boat from South County back to St. Charles.

That evening I helped Jennifer S remove the wallpaper border from one of her bedrooms. She's 5 months preggers and barely tall enough to reach the ceiling on a step ladder. We finished removing the wallpaper border together before 6pm! I can't wait to see the room when she is finished, she is going to paint it blue with floating clouds, oh la la!

Yesterday I registered the car and got plates. I had to go to FOUR places! First, to the Assessor's office in downtown St. Charles to get a Statement of Non-Assessment which means I did not own any property in St. Charles in the past 2 years. Otherwise I would have had to bring a receipt for my paid personal property tax before being able to register the car. That was accomplished in 10 minutes, there was almost no wait, although on the way there I veered off from the Yahoo directions twice... and had to find my way back to the correct street. I was not very familiar with this area before I moved to Arizona. It doesn't help that the streets around here change names every 5 miles or less... Then I went to get the emissions test. There was absolutely no wait at all, I drove right in and it was done in 5 minutes.

I'm staying with Christy and her family, she was watching Jake for me along with 3 other children and her daughter during this time, so I headed back to feed Jake and put him down for a nap.

The third stop in registering the car was to get a safety inspection. You have to go to a garage to do that. I called around and the first two were so busy, they couldn't do it until next week. The third garage said, "Can you be here in 20 minutes?" W00t! I packed Jake in the car and headed over. That inspection took only 15 minutes.

The last stop was the Dept of Revenue to get the plates, it was right across the street from the garage. I only had to wait about 5 minutes, then I presented the SIX documents required and walked out 5 minutes later with plates! Even though none of the stops took longer than 15 minutes, which was SO awesome, with the driving time and all of the unexpected detours (heh!) it took 4 and a half hours. Which isn't so bad with all of the places I had to go.

Next week I can get my MO drivers license when Mike gets here with my birth certificate and SS card. He reserved the moving truck yesterday :)

Today my agenda is to call apts, do laundry, and give Jake a bath... he's been sleeping in a crib for the first time ever this week, he seems to like it!

Ok, gotta go, this is already a novella. ~Adria

The BBQ was FUN!

Thanks to everyone who came to the BBQ! We had lots of fun and it was great to see everyone one last time. Pictures have been uploaded.

I am packing the suitcases and will be heading out to St. Louis in a few hours with Jake. Gotta go or we'll be late to the airport, Adria

Today is the BBQ

Yesterday when we went to the title agency so I could sign the paperwork and Mike was able to sign early also and will not need to go back in which means he can pack up the moving truck and head on up on November 27th. So I'll need to start looking at rentals as soon as possible. Fun fun fun!

Jake slept through the entire night! 10 hours! Fabulous! Too bad we were woken up by Mike's pager... he was not able to use VPN to check on the servers, uh oh. He drove out to the co-location (1 hour each way) and figured out that someone turned on the Microsoft Updates and one of the updates was causing a problem. Thank goodness the server did not crash because he would have been there all weekend repairing it.

Today is the BBQ, I need to clean up and do laundry, ttyl!

We can finally speak about it!

Ok, no one at Mike's work knew about our move to St. Louis until yesterday, so now we can talk about it! Thank goodness! I booked the plane reservations for Jake and myself yesterday. We will be leaving Sunday 11/19 in the afternoon. Mike will follow with a moving van and the dogs. He will be staying one night with his mom in Pampa, TX on the way and will be leaving our dog TJ with her. Thank goodness! That is the neediest dog I have EVER met. Mike is sad about the decision, but since I will be staying at home and spending more time with the dogs, he felt it would be in the best interest of our family and TJ to find another home for him. And since TJ will be with Mike's mother, we know he will be loved and cared for.

We had our house on the market for 25 days and received 2 offers on the same day. We are almost done packing the house and I have to say that I am so tired! Taking care of Jake, cleaning the house every 15 minutes to show it to whoever stops by, and packing without making a big mess were tiring. Now the house looks like a tornado hit because we have dragged the rest of our stuff out of the closets, drawers, and shelves, etc, to pack all of it. We ran out of boxes last night, too! Oops!

I just finished cooking my grandma's potato salad recipe for the farewell BBQ we are having tomorrow and I think I finally got it perfect this time! I also make pasta salad and I was going to make green bean casserole, but I accidentally picked up the wrong green beans at the store, oops! So I'll make that later today or tomorrow.

It's noon right now, Mike just left work early so I could have the car to make my 1:30 appointment with my beautician. She is awesome! She knows how to style my curly hair better than anyone I have found so far. I'm really going to miss her, I just hope I find someone as skilled as she is in St. Louis.

After my appointment we are going to the Title office so I can sign the closing documents early and defer the final decisions to Mike. Woohoo! That's the last thing I need to do for the house (other than cleaning and packing) before flying out Sunday. So I've gotta get moving in order to be ready to go when he gets home.

TTFN, Adria
